We are sad to announce that Soil to Sky has not been granted an extension of its operating funding and that Agriculture & Food Council has officially begun the complex process of transitioning the site towards either (a) new ownership or (b) termination of operations.

Soil to Sky has been running since June 2006 and the hundreds of thousands of users who have viewed millions of pages of information from this domain have our deep gratitude for your support of the site in this time.

The possible closing of this site as of March 31, 2010 — while not a complete surprise given the ongoing struggle to find financial support for these kinds of tools — has still come as a shock to us working here, and while we work to find the best possible solution for our user-base, stakeholders, and others we will endeavor to continue to keep the site up-to-date and everyone informed to our status. Thanks for your ongoing support.

If you have any questions, please contact us directly by email at brad DOT salomons AT agfoodcouncil DOT com

NEW INFORMATION WILL BE POSTED AT THIS PERMANENT PAGE: http://www.soiltosky.ca/important-site-changes/

The Carbon Farmer plants trees on select parcels of previously farmed land that has been family-owned and farmed for three generations. These forests are helping to address the major environmental issues threatening today’s world (including climate change) by storing carbon as they grow. Purchasing offsets through The Carbon Farmer can help bring back the forests and all their benefits. Carbon Plus Credits are a tangible and affordable means for individuals, organizations and businesses to make a positive impact on the environment.

The Calgary Food Policy Council is comprised of individuals from all aspects of the local Calgary food system. The goal is to provide a forum for advocacy and policy development that works towards the creation of a food system that is ecologically sustainable, economically viable and socially just. Calgary Food Policy Council does this to build an enhanced food security, food justice, food democracy, urban agriculture, community garden, and sustainable agriculture landscape in Calgary.

The Calgary Food Policy Council focuses on the following principles for its food system: community economic development, where locally-based food systems enhance Calgary’s economy; ecological health, where a whole-system approach to food protects natural resources, reduces and redirects food waste, and contributes to the environmental stability and well-being of local, regional, and global communities; social justice, where food is a basic human right; collaboration and participation, where sustainable food systems encourage civic engagement, promote responsibility, and strengthen communities; and celebration, where sharing food is a fundamental human experience.

The primary goal of many Food Policy Councils is to examine the operation of a local food system and provide ideas and policy recommendations for how it can be improved. The Calgary Food Policy Council (CFPC) advises on food system matters. CFPC mandate is to work with community groups to help solve the hunger problem, work with food companies to foster more nutritious products and services, and work with farmers to develop environmentally and socially sustainable growing systems.
