General Farm Worker (Laying Operation / Hatchery)
Daily routines include feeding, watering, daily collection of hatching eggs and the overseeing of the breeding flock. Workers monitor feed inventory, maintain standards of efficiency and bio-security, maintain and update flock records and statistics, implement health programs, and are familiar with WHIMIS regulations.

General Labourer / Equestrian
On a horse farm a general labourer performs a variety of duties including some of the following: routine cleaning and maintenance of barn, feeding and watering, administering medication under the supervision of barn manager, lead training yearlings in the walking ring, grooming and cleaning of horses, hoof care, assistance with breeding programs, assistance with foaling, care of pregnant mares and foals.

Farrow to Finish Production Technician
Regular maintenance of routine clean-up, waste handling, feeding, watering, moving swine, weaning, monitoring weight gains. Swine Health, i.e., performing routine health inspections and recognizing signs of disorder, handling and possibly administering medications and vaccines, recognizing related farrowing problems and providing assistance.

Herdsperson & Pork Production Supervisor
This position would be responsible for the following: identification and description of farm production goals and communication of goals to all staff; regular monitoring of animal needs, pig flow, work schedules and emergency responses; water, feed and food quality, humidity, air flow, pig; following key rules of pig production with respect to loading and unloading – temperature and light, reduce stress at all stages, awareness of disease transferring potential and identification of common disorders and diseases; provide regular upkeep of equipment and buildings, demonstrate effective and safe equipment operation.

Ranch Hand – Cowgirl or Cowboy
Working under the direction of a Ranch Foreman or Ranch Owner, main duties include: feeding and tending livestock, operation and maintenance of farm machinery, cleaning barns and pens, branding, and dehorning, fenceline (repair) and rangeland patrol either on motorcycle, horse, or truck, planting, irrigating and harvesting crops.

Ranch Foreman
The Foreman runs day to day operation of the ranch. Tasks include: supervision of ranch employees, basic accounting, livestock feeding, maintaining high quality herd health, breeding programs, branding, operation and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment. During calving season heifers (first time mothers) and cows require 24 hour monitoring, shift work shared by all employees.

Rare Breeds Canada is a federally registered charitable organization formed in 1987 dedicated to conserving, evaluating and studying heritage, rare and minor breeds of Canadian farm animals. The organization believes this can be best achieved by maintaining viable breeding groups and preserving the genetics of these rare and endangered breeds.

Canadian Society for Clinical Nutrition
The Canadian Society for Clinical Nutrition is a multi-disciplinary professional organization dedicated to research, translation of scientific advances and the application of best nutrition practice for the promotion of health and the prevention and treatment of disease.

Inspection Laboratory Technician
Ensuring that Canada’s foods, plants, and animals are healthy and safe is a key part of working as an inspection lab technician. Usually employed by government agencies, a tech might be involved in examining food (both human and animal) for signs of contaminants such as bacteria or chemicals, testing animal populations for disease through blood and serum analysis, examining water samples for contamination from organisms or chemicals, or tracking plants (both wild and crop) for pests or other destructive infestations.

Animal Physiology Laboratory Technician
Animal physiology can be thought of as the general health and well being of animals. The role of primary production in Canada is to raise large numbers of animals, small or large, for the production of food and animal products. Working in an animal physiology lab, a technician may be working towards understanding how the health of those animals are impacted by the many factors of their lifestyle.

Beekeeper Assistant Labourer
Working with insects might be just the challenge you are looking for. As a beekeeper you’d be responsible for the well-being of (literally) thousands of animals. This is a labour position, and requires a physically active person looking for unique experiences in agriculture and food production.

Swine Breeding Technician
Usually employed by medium- to large-sized sow farrow to finish operations, swine breeding technicians are involved in many aspects of the pork production operation. Often, work will involve everything from repairing equipment to management of grower and finisher hogs to other related administrative duties.

Alberta Turkey Producers
The Alberta Turkey Producers Board was formed on January 6, 1967. Together with industry partners, the Alberta Turkey Producers help to regulate, promote and educate consumers about today’s turkey. The organization is governed by a board of five directors, and represents approximately 55 producers in Alberta.

Alberta Chicken Producers
The Alberta Chicken Producers operate approximately 285 producers. These producers are located throughout the province from north of Grande Prairie – south to the U.S. border. Consequently, 115 million kg of chicken is produced with a farm gate value of $135 million.

Alberta Egg Producers
The Alberta Egg Producers, established in 1968, is a board representing the 165+ registered egg producers in Alberta.
