Sod Farm Worker
Workers perform a variety of routine chores under the direction of the turf farm manager or supervisor, including: rock picking, irrigation, fence line boundary preparation, installing base mesh, seeding, fertilizing and harvesting.

General Labourer
his position, depending on farm and length of time, may include a variety of general chores such as: clean-up of calf barns, raking freestalls, general yard clean-up, weed control, haying, forage harvesting, rock picking, building and barn maintenance, painting, basic carpentry, and field work (tractor). These jobs may lead to other full-time positions on the farm or ranch depending on the willingness to work and attitude.

Equipment Operator
General farm chores include: scraping barns, providing bedding to free stalls and calf pens, daily safety inspection of equipment. Field work includes preparation for seeding, manure spreading and/or fertilizing, harvest work (i.e. forage, haying), driving forage (1 ton and over) truck. May require regular maintenance of equipment and barns, milking equipment, dairy yard, field and equipment maintenance.

Ranch Hand – Cowgirl or Cowboy
Working under the direction of a Ranch Foreman or Ranch Owner, main duties include: feeding and tending livestock, operation and maintenance of farm machinery, cleaning barns and pens, branding, and dehorning, fenceline (repair) and rangeland patrol either on motorcycle, horse, or truck, planting, irrigating and harvesting crops.

Ranch Foreman
The Foreman runs day to day operation of the ranch. Tasks include: supervision of ranch employees, basic accounting, livestock feeding, maintaining high quality herd health, breeding programs, branding, operation and maintenance of farm machinery and equipment. During calving season heifers (first time mothers) and cows require 24 hour monitoring, shift work shared by all employees.

Reduced Tillage Linkage’s website is a source for the general public, farmers, and other agribusiness stakeholders to obtain information about the positive effects of reduced tillage initiatives. The program ended on August 31, 2009, but information in the Agronomy Library will be left online.

Alberta Crop Industry Development Fund (ACIDF) is an independent, not-for-profit company operating under the direction of the crop industry. ACIDF funds and supports selected crop related industry development activities, which include market development, research, and extension.
