Rural Economy faculty and students pursue excellence in socio-economic research and teaching. A unique group of applied economists and sociologists in the University of Alberta’s Department of Rural Economy work on agriculture, forestry and issues of the environment. Faculty and students are involved in cutting-edge research on the socio-economic aspects of managing natural resources. The research is interdisciplinary and involves collaborative efforts among natural and social scientists. The department supports B.Sc. programs in Agriculture and Forest Business Management, Environmental Economics and Policy, Human Dimensions of Resource Management, and Agricultural and Resource Economics. Rigorous Masters and Ph.D. graduate programs are offered in Agricultural and Resource Economics, Forest Economics and Rural Sociology.
